The Smiths/Morrissey

Comments about The
Smiths/Morrissey:
The legacy of
The Smiths and Morrissey belongs to the '80's but it's interesting to see how many bands
have actually borrowed and learned from The smiths. In a way, Britpop might never have
evolved the way it did had it not been for the three years where the band released
records. This makes The Smiths one of the most important bands of the '80's, even though
they didn't survive very long. The forces within the band were simply too strong to keep
in a single unit. Explosion was inevitable..... Le Mec
"The
Smiths were the definitive British indie-rock band of the '80s, marking the end of
synth-driven New Wave and the beginning of the guitar-rock that dominated English rock
into the '90s." Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All-Music Guide
