Why This Album Is
So Great:
Well, here's another one of
those pop bands where melancholy is a very big part of their sound and universe. In many
ways, one could call Talk Talk pop music's answer to The Cure. At least, the world of Mark
Hollis seems just as frustrated and dim as that of Robert Smith of The Cure. Musically,
this best of compilation captures the best songs from the more popular Talk Talk albums
(before they went bizarre with "Laughing Stock") and it's actually amazing how
many great pop songs they managed to spit out during a period of only 4-5 years. Of
course, I recommend that you check out the individual albums by the band since they
contain just as many great songs and maybe show a better picture of the band. But for
starters, this is a great way to get to know the band if you don't already.
