Why This Album Is So Great:
Sting is another one of those artists I have a two-sided relationship with. In
his case, I really like the music, but sometimes it just gets too polished and
well-produced. And most often, this just makes it boring to listen to. A little edge is
needed to make an album worth listening to again and again. Anyway, "Ten Summoner's
Tales" is an exception and clearly Sting's best effort so far. Thank God that he
decided to return to a more commercial approach with this album - "The Soul
Cages" had gotten to be just a little bit too dark and introvert. So, this album just
has a very optimistic and happy feel to it, and this together with great songs has given
the album something I can't deny. Songs like "Fields Of Gold", "It's
Probably Me" and "Shape Of My Heart" are born Sting classics and just
beyond measure. And it's strong enough to make it a top 50 album. It's as simple as that.
