Why This
Album Is So Great:
This is Simple Minds' most consistant album when it comes to turning out great
rock anthems of the more upbeat type. The album only contains eight songs but they're all
filled with killer hooks and that special Simple Minds sound. The album is from the time
of "Don't You (Forget About Me)" and is very related to that big single. Also,
it was the last album before the band went in other directions, pursuing big issues and
world peace. This is partly why I like it so much: this is pure rock managing to combine
great hooks with a serious attitude - as perfected by Bob Clearmountain and Jimmy Iovine.
A very rich sound. I guess you could call it Simple Minds' equivalent to U2's "The
Joshua Tree". My favourites off the album are "Come A Long Way" and
"All The Things She Said" but really, they are all potential hit singles...
Overall Rating (on a scale from 1 to 10): 8
