LIST as of March 31st 2001

- The Dandy Warhols live. I hereby declare my
love to this band. I've always liked them a lot but after experiencing them live and
rubbing shoulders with the band, the case is clear: Dandy Warhols master the difficult
discipline of living the rock life with all its myths and still be nice people with
enormous amounts of charm and personality.....and they play great too!!
- R.E.M.: "Imitation
Of Life". Great new single from one of America's finest. Very atmospheric and
immediately stands out compared to at lot of the garbage overfloating the charts. Holds
great promises for the new album "Reveal".
- Coldplay
and Travis not only showing the new British
scene musically. They're also presenting a whole new and much more approachable attitude
towards the public and media. A welcome change I must say - even though it does take some
of the fun out of the scene. I mean, we all love to hate Liam Gallagher...
- Danish pop princess Marie Frank getting great reviews in Q Magazine for her debut album
"Ancient Pleasures". It's a great album and now it's officially great in Q too -
and available in other European countries. Go get it!
- Semisonic:
"All About Chemistry". A most convincing rock/pop effort from this - to me at
least - total newcomer.
- Lloyd Cole's "The Negatives". The
latest album continues the Lloyd Cole universe and the band will be touring in the US and
Europe from March through May.
- Deacon Blue have reformed. And a new album is
around the corner too in late April.
- I just finished reading a great
biography about George Michael. It tells the complete story
of one of the finest songwriters of the last two decades and digs out the person behind
the public megastar. It's called "Older" and is by Nicholas and Tim Wapshott.
Notlist
- Napster
losing the trial about electronic exchange of music. A setback for the free powers of the
Internet. However, I'm sure something else will just surface instead and only make this a
temporary victory for the record companies.
- Manic
Street Preachers: "Know Your Enemy". I've said it before and
will again: the Manic Street Preachers are just not that exciting and a bit overrated
musically. This they prove once again with their latest album.
- Jennifer
Lopez:" J. LO". At first there was the charm and obvious
qualities of hits like "If You Had My Love" and "Waiting For Tonight".
Now all that's left on her second album is coldly calculated beats with no feeling or
personality whatsoever. Get back to the movies, Jenny!
- The obsession with extremes on the current music scene. It's either sickenly
sweet like the R&B or mindlessly violent and rebellious like many of the rap/rock
artists. It seems like the world has become a place of extremes where package and attitude
means more that good old musical talent and personality.
- Eric
Clapton and other old ones still mindlessly releasing records. In my view,
they've become fairly obsolete and are now only making music for the truly dedicated. This
however, has some value to some people I guess. Still, it's a problem that an artist like
Clapton ca sell such boring crap just because he has a name. That should be illegal!
- Brilliant pop duo Mono have officially
split. The leadsinger, however, is forming her own band.
- Hear'Say.
Just when you thought that the manufacture of pop bands couldn't sink any lower and become
more immoral, here comes a band put together according to the Big Brother concept. Five
band members were picked out of thousands and now they're releasing their debut album to
become hugh pop stars. My DISGUST needs capital letters!!!
