THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of June 30th 2002
Le Mec:
Hotlist
- Vanessa
Carlton: "Be Not Nobody". Thrilling debut album from young
singer-songwriter. Moves around the same universe as Fiona Apple
although Vanessa Carlton seems a bit more lighthearted.
- Moony:
"Dove". The number one summer pop song in my book. Dynamic and catchy as hell!
- If you have money to spend and feel like
listening to some really intelligent pop music, The The have a greatest hits package out. It's
called "45 Rpm".
- The summertime is notorious for its lack
of interesting album releases (this includes the new Oasis
album...). However, right on the other side of the summer are several releases worth looking forward to. Artists like Coldplay
and Suede have material ready for August and September.
- More figures have been published
regarding the big cash cows in music of 2001.
The list is worldwide:
1. U2 - $61.9m
2. Dr Dre - $51.9m
3. The Beatles - $47.9m
4. The Dave Matthews Band - $43.4m
5. Madonna - $40.8m
6. Master P - $36m
7. Carlos Santana - $32.7m
8. *N Sync - $26.5m
9. Aerosmith - $24.2m
10. Sting - $24m

Notlist
- David
Bowie: "Heathen". It's no big secret that for everyone but
Bowie-fans and old dusty music critics, it's been quite a while since Bowie released
anything of real substance. Granted, the man has been able to move his music into decade
after decade without sounding dated. The one thing missing - the most important of all -
is the songs, though. I'm sorry but Bowie just doesn't write good songs anymore.
- It's a strange thing but sometimes the
music business just has certain "cool" album
titles that go along with a particular period. For instance, why do both
David Bowie and Oasis have albums out now called something with "Heathen"? And I
remember back in the '80's where Samantha Fox had a hit called "Nothing's Gonna Stop
Me Now" and Starship were in the charts at the same time with "Nothing's Gonna
Stop Us Now". Coincidence...or does the music industry have spies around to let
them know what our turn-ons will be when it comes to album titles....? Anyway, I was just
wondering...
- Pink
speaking (irony or not) in favour of handing out ecstacy to school children with the
argument that you can do a lot more on e. I mean, I honestly thought there were limits to
how stupid a person could be. I guess not...
- In a recent survey Robbie Williams was voted the most important man in music.
I mean, all respect to the man but GET OUTTA HERE!!!! Other people on the list seem more
appropritate:
1. Robbie Williams
2. Michael Jackson
3. Elvis Presley
4. John Lennon
5. Freddie Mercury
6. Bono
7. Elton John
8. George Michael
9. David Bowie
10. Sting
11. Cliff Richard
12. Jon Bon Jovi
13. Bob Dylan
14. Frank Sinatra
15. Bruce Springsteen
16. Paul Weller
17. Kurt Cobain
18. Noel Gallagher
19. Prince
20. Sir Paul McCartney
