THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of March 30th 2003
Le Mec:
Hotlist
- Placebo:
"Sleeping With Ghosts". New brilliant album from Britain's finest neurotic
outsiders.
- Mew: "Frengers". International
debut album from upcoming Danish popstars. The debut single has already been hailed by NME
as the next musical orgasm and the album is released through-out Europe during the spring.
Finally there's a reason to learn more about that little country in the north.
- Moloko: "Statues". Another fine
mix of twisted dance tunes. Less experimental and more melodically focused. Should contain
a monster hit or two for this summer.
- The Cardigans: "Long Gone Before
Daylight". Probably their best album yet. More acoustic but at this stage of their
career, stopping and taking the time looks really good on them.
- D-Sound: "Spice Of Life".
Norwegian popfunk band with incredible melodic skills. Damn, this album always makes me in
a good mood when I put it on. No matter how much dogshit I got under my shoes on the way
home.....Check out www.dsound.com.
- The Police remastered. If you don't
already have their albums, they're now available in a better sonic format. If you have
them you'll probably just want to hold on to the ones you already spent money on.
- Jackson Browne live in Denmark. A reminder
of what music used to be about. And a reminder of how far we've removed ourselves from
this state today when most attention is focused on looks, media, sex and other stuff we
can't live without today...
- Live touring
Denmark in June. Got my ticket to see them and am saving lots of energy for the night.
- Duran Duran
releasing a box set with their first thirteen singles in special sleeves including
12" versions and B-sides. A must for fans. Others will get along fine without it. But
it is a reminder of how good the 12" single could be and how crap extended and
alternative mixes have become today.
- How simple party music is. You spend ages
thinking about what to listen to at your upcoming party. And then ages making tapes or
cd's with hip and new party music. And in the end people end up putting all the old
classics dance and disco classics on and partying to all the same music.....again - making
all your hard work completely obsolete. At least you tried to show them a horizon wider
than Bee Gees, Wham and Anastacia. No such luck.
Notlist
- Ozzy. Prince of Fucking Darkness or
not, I have a really hard time taking him and his music seriously after the Osbournes
show...
- Danish Music Awards. As always, a fairly
useless show with the same routines and the same lack of drama and substance. These awards
show are rarely any good and only the British sometimes succeed in presenting a show worth
watching from start to end. However, more often than not the UK version also stinks...
- The whole media attention around russian girl duo Tatu.
Are they lesbian or not.......? I just can't see what's so upsetting about them - if I
want utrageous popstars I'll take Courtney Love any day.
- So far the previews of Madonna's new album
"American Life" are very disappointing. It seems like the album is built around
the same sound as the horrible "Die Another Day". It all lacks melody and
atmosphere - all the things that made "Ray Of Light" so fantastic.
- Heart: "Greatest Hits". Let's
face it. The world has moved on and does not need to be reminded with a double disc set
about what has ultimately become incredibly boring music. American MOR popmetal at its
worst.
