THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of September 28th 2003
Le Mec:
Hotlist
- Lloyd Cole acoustic live performance. Just the
man and his guitar and all the great songs of bittersweet emotion. I know that, since the
Cole man is one of my absolute favourites, the expectation of disappointment was far far
away. But still - a magical experience!
- Dido:
"Life For Rent". This is probably the melancholic album of the year and will
surely be just as successful as her debut. Expect to be Didoed the next year or two.
- The
Wallflowers. Heard their breaktrough album "Bringing Down The
Horse" and really found something unique in their music. Went out and got all four
albums released by
them and am now completely taken in by their musical universe. American mainstream rock
with an essential emphasis on the good tune and big bags of longing and feeling
lost. Can be described as a tasty mix between Tom Petty, The Watchmen and Goo Goo Dolls.
If you wanna check them out, go for the "Horse" album or their
"Breach" release first.
- The
Cardigans: "Long Gone Before Daylight". Their most downbeat yet
by far best release so far. The album is filled with slow growers and an immense
atmosphere. Just
when you thought these Cardigans were on the way down, they go and.........TOTALLY REDEEM
THEMSELVES!!!
- John Mayer:
"Heavier Things". New fine album from one of America's best rock
singer-songwriters at the moment. Shows that the hit "No Such Thing" was just an
alert of
even better things to come.
- Aimee Mann:
"Lost In Space". Yet another fine indie singer-songwriter from one of America's
finest. Her universe is so soft and fragile and yet about to explode any minute.
Notlist
- Rolling Stone magazine. The
journalistic content of the magazine is rather disappointing considering the size of and
thereby constant activity on the US music scene. Instead, each edition is fairly limited
in article volume and filled with quick from-the-hip journalism. I don't know...guess I'm
just used to quality magazines like Q.
- Zwan
disbands. However, Billy Corgan solo will probably be just as good...
- Nickelback.
Poodle hair is back...hmm, I have a really hard time taking this band serious.
- Lene:
"Play With Me". New and very unnecessary album from previous front woman of
Aqua.
- David
Bowie: "Reality". Even though he's one of the most interesting
and sympathetic people in the music business, his music just fails to capture my attention
- and it's been like this for the last decade or so. I generally find him quite boring.
- Robert
Palmer has died of a heart attack, only 54 years old. Although I have
largely ignored his contribution to music, it's still strange when somebody this young and
from a
generation where many of your favourites belong, dies.
- Garbage recording studio wrecked by truck on the
loose...and the band is uncomfortably close to the accident. Apparently, a truck went off
the road and wrecked their studio in Wisconsin only an hour after the band had left. Guess
it's in the karma that the world should have another Garbage record...
