NOT LIST as of August 27th 2000

- The
Dandy Warhols: "Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia". This, their
third album, is probably their best so far. A brilliant bohemian rock album with both
great songs and lots of energy.
- For a long time I've been on the
look-out for Garbage's B-sides and was sad
to hear that their expected B-sides project had been shelved for now. However, I recently
came across a brilliant Garbage website where all these songs and more can be found in MP3
format. The site also has loads of great photos of the band. I just wanted to pass the link on to anybody who might be
interested.
- The album cover for the new Radiohead album (October 2nd) has surfaced. Check it out here.
- Fiona
Apple. So young and yet with so much substance and depth. Her music may
not be easily absorbed but once she creeps under your skin, you'll never want to let her
go...more.
- For those of you interested in optimal
sound reproduction, just thought I'd pass on to you that Roxy
Music and The Eagles have
had their entire catalogue re-released in remastered versions for better sound.
- Prefab
Sprout have released a double "Best Of" album called "38
Carat Collection". This is the perfect place to get familiar with the band.
- It may not be totally relevant to
mention him here, but Danish musical storyteller Niels
Hausgaard really has something that makes his shows a wonderfully personal
and interesting journey through Denmark and Danish culture. He's on stage for about two
hours and yet manages to keep the audience completely on their feet. A rare quailty...
Notlist
- The lack
of any decent music programs in Danish television (I guess the problem is
the same anywhere). Practically all music programs are based on the latest hits and
focuses more on surface than contents. The clips are filled with fast cuts and all kinds
of editing methods but very low on actual informative contents. I mean, where have the
really good one-hour documentaries gone....?
- Speaking of lacks, I think the Danish music scene has to be criticized for the lack of
vision and (mostly the record companies) the lack of real ambition on behalf of the good
artists. The artists mostly focus on what's been done successfully before and the safe
formula, and the record companies are very reluctant to put any real money into a band
before they've had at least a couple of hits. The Aqua story doesn't happy very often so
if Denmark is supposed to be more visible on the musical charts we need something new to
surface....both from the artists creatively and more guts from the very conservative
record companies.
