  • Faithless - kings of intelligent dance. With all this dance music around - and a lot of it fairly crappy - it's great to see when the Godfathers of dance enter the stage. Faithless quite simply have their own style and manage to set the agenda each time they release new stuff. Listen to "We Come 1" and look out for their new album "Outrospective" in June.
  • CD Wow. I normally wouldn't advertise for online music stores in this forum but will make an exception. Knowing the prices for cd's in the stores and having taken a look at them in the online stores, one can only be repulsed by how much you have to pay to get your music. Which is why it's good to see that decent prices can still be obtained. At CD Wow you will pay no more that £9 for a cd and it comes with free delivery - no matter where you live. The assortment is rather small but if you're after new releases there's no better place to look.
  • Suzanne Vega: "Nine Objects Of Desire". Never been a huge fan but this album manages to create the perfect match between her sweet velvet voice and a groovy bass filled sound. Makes her intimate songwriting stand out even more - and also less dull...
  • Mono have split up, in fact they did that a while ago. So no more arty pop music from a very promisong duo. However, look out for Siobhan's (the singer) new project Velvet Indiana. Should be somewhere along the same lines.
  • I came across a huge list of the richest 100 UK based rockstars in Q Magazine and felt it was interesting enough to copy it and present it to you. Money in itself should never be the goal when making music - I think we all agree on that - but it is somehow a vague indication that we're probably all in the wrong line of business...

Notlist

  • The European Song Contest, held in Denmark a couple of weeks ago. I bet a lot you watched it and have your own opinion. Mine is that - if we look beyond the substandard musical contents - a great opportunity was missed. The show was fairly ordinary and the two hosts very horrible. To any non-Danes out there, believe me, they could have done much better if they had only stayed away from making everything rhyme. Whoever came up with that crappy idea should be shot!! The only good thing about the show was that it was a fine opportunity to promote out little country...
  • Gangsta rap - and the whole world behind it. I've slashed Gangsta rap before.....but I think I'll just do it again. I read this book about Death Row Records and the whole Gangsta rap scene (Ronin Ro: "Have Gun Will Travel") and it really revealed how much the music is centered around a life of ridiculous gangbanging and crime. Most of it is all about slagging other groups or gangs and the music is pretty much the same. I went back and listened to some of my Gangsta rap albums and only the songs with a killer groove could stand being listened to. The rest was boring and pure garbage. To me, this genre has suffered the same cruel destiny as Heavy Metal did ten years ago. It has become a parody, a farce, an interesting momentum in music history - nothing more.
  • R.E.M. cover art. They were never the masters of cover art but I think R.E.M. have really hit rock bottom with their last two releases "Up" and "Reveal". Quite simply, it's butt ugly and should have been pulled off the table before reaching print. Michael Stipe himself has a big hand in those covers..........well....hmmm.....I guess I'd prefer a normal boring cover if he'd just stick to what he does best.
