THE HOT AND NOT LIST as of February 26th
1999
Le Mec:
Hotlist
- It's the calm before the storm at the moment. The music biz is quiet when it comes to
new releases, but very soon the goodies are gonna come tumbling down on us. If you haven't
seen it yet, scroll further down for a list of album releases this spring.
Kent. Swedish Britpop with class.
I recommend Danish band Luksus.
They're quite an exciting acquintance and definitely worth a listen.
Notlist
Manic
Street Preachers are a
great band - no doubt about that. But I just can't understand the hype that's going on
about this band, trying to make them the biggest band in the world. Come on, The Manics
are "just" another British rock band, not that unlike every other band from the
UK. Just wait and see when Suede release their new album in May - then all of a sudden
they will be the biggest thing. Or maybe Blur when their new album hits the streets. Let's
keep things in perspective, please! Bands like R.E.M. and U2 still outsell The Manics
several times...
Danish newcomer Freya. Her
music definitely has a lot of quality, but the Danish media is trying their hardest to
make her the pride of Denmark, when all she really is is a clone between Lisa Loeb and
Tori Amos. So if you like her music, look abroad. It's done better there.
I had great expectations to the band Belle & Sebastian but must admit that I'm a little bit
disappointed. They're not bad at all, but rather ordinary in my eyes. At least their
latest "The Boy With The Arab Strap".
