THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of August 24th 2003
Le Mec:
Hotlist
- The Thrills: "So Much For The City". I guess I
can only agree with all the fine reviews of this album. It has summer written all over it
will ensure that the sun burns bright way into the autumn.
- John Mayer:
"Room For Squares". He's the guy with the hit "No Such Thing" and the
album is filled with similar singer-songwriter pop. It may not contain many new inventions
but I found the album extremely appealing. If you're into the lighter side of
singer-songwriting you may too.
- Dido:
"White Flag". Although I eventually got vaguely bored with Dido over-exposure
the last time the fever hit us, I must admit that this new single is tickling my appetite
again. Guess I'll be more than ready when hear album is released in September and another
ridiculously big success is assured once again.
- Gary Jules:
"Mad World" - Tears For Fears interpreted in fantastic movie "Donnie
Darko". An utterly beatiful rendition of an already awesome song.
- Owsley:
"Owsley". Bought this album really cheap knowing absolutely nothing about the
guy. Turned out to be a quite delicious dish of American rock singer-songwriter which is
guaranteed to thrill you if you're into the more large American mainstream.
- Mousse T.:
"Gourmet De Funk". Funky French big bag of mixed nuts. Contains everything from
ballads to deeply funky dance stuff to Tom Jones and Fine Young Cannibals. This will move
your feet and get below your belt - guaranteed!
- Seal
is back. He may not be as unique as back in the early '90's but somehow his talent is
always welcome. Mind you, the competition and amount of black brothers has exploded since
he was with us last time. He's in for a fight to claim what he once had.
- Justice
after all. Kelly Osbourne stinks and it seems like the public is on to her
and has decided not to reward her with superstardom. At least not the kind you get from
artistic recognition.
Notlist
- Rolling Stone magazine calling Danish pop newcomers Junior
Senior for the new Pet Shop Boys. Get a grip! Never in a million years!
Their music is just fun and games and will not be remembered in a couple of years.
- The Aqua house is falling down. One is
beating his girlfriend while the singer is porno-ing around trying to re-establish some
kind of musical career. How simple it all used to be with "Barbie Girl"...
- Evanonsense....erhm..Evanescence. I
actually found them quite interesting at first but the more they rotate on the air, the
more bugged I'm becoming by her voice and the by now really boring nu-metal flavour. What
could be a rather intriguing constellation is slowly fading into yet another bump in the
chart highway...
