THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of April 22nd 2001

- R.E.M. are back! The new album "Reveal"
(released May 12th) lands somewhere between "Automatic For The People" and
"Up" and presents the band at their very best. They suffered from severe
internal crisis in 1998 but have now really found themselves and crafted what could very
well be one of their best albums ever.
- Depeche Mode are back too! Just as with R.E.M., the
band is seeking the sound of some of the older stuff on the new album "Exciter"
(released May 14th). Acoustic instruments are combined with the inevitable synths into a
cocktail which should easily position DM in the charts all over again.
- Roxy Music have reunited for a number of concerts over
the summer. And who knows - there may even be recorded material in sight too...
- The cool attitude of American rock
dinosaurs Aerosmith. In a world where provocative statements
and behaviour seem to be the norm to achieve media coverage, it's very liberating with a
band who have tried it all. They've got nothing more to prove and can thus serve up their
dish without all the bullshit.
- Ash burning
300 copies of Westlife's cd. Now there's a demonstration of substance for you...by the
way, Ash's new album "Free All Angels" is worth checking out.
- Security problems or not, this year's Roskilde
Festival has lined up yet another very interesting program with a lot
of goodies.
- Del Amitri are currently putting the last efforts into
their new album expected out in September. On the official UK website you can read a band diary about the process as it
happens.
Notlist
- Shaggy.
Somebody take this sorry excuse for a popstar and put him somewhere ugly, damp and dark
for not less than a decade. Then take him back out and give him some music
lessons.......or just feed him to the dogs.
- Toploader
doing Danish Big Brother. Visible proof of the dubious connection between television and
the record companies....and singer Joe Washbourn's hair is completely off the mark too!!!!
- Odd fact:
came across the following writer's credit for a Coolio track: A. Ivey/D. Aldrigde/M.
Straughter/H. Straughter/J. Alexander/C. Allen/M. Beard/M. Bynum/L. Dodson/S. Guy/H.
Henderson/A. Jones/L. Smith/W. Stewart/F. Thompson/M. Tules/C. Frantz/T. Weymouth/L.
Weymouth/S. Standley/L. Evon. Although the track does contain a sample, the most obvious
question here must be: who the hell did exactly what on this song!?!
