THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of January 22nd 2000

Hotlist
- The The
will be playing live in Aarhus in April. The new album "Naked Self" will be out
on February 14th and the following tour brings this brilliant band to my town.
- It's been coming for a long time: I
finally pulled myself together and got myself new speakers and a new amp. And this I must
say to y'all: if you're serious about listening to music and appreciate all the facets in
a song, don't settle for anything less than a great stereo. It brings so much more life to
the music and all your old CDs will take on a whole new life. Try it if you haven't
already...
- I have an upcoming concert with British
pop band Lightning Seeds. Intelligent
quality pop is what describes them best and I'm looking forward to a night filled with
good tunes and a jolly good time...
- ...did I mention that I really like Lene Marlin's debut album "Playing My Game"?
- ...and Swedish band Kent will also be playing close to me. Well, concert-wise this
could be a great spring.
Notlist
- The new Smashing
Pumpkins single is quite a disappointment. It may be a return to more
guitars and aggressivenes, but gaining that apparently meant losing the atmospheric touch
that characterized "Adore". The Pumpkins have some convincing to do when their
new album is released mid February.
- The new Oasis
single "Let It Out" is also rather mediocre and I think the band may be heading
for a serious fall success-wise. They need to pull something special out their sleeve to
hold on to their position as top rock'n'rollers. Otherwise, they'll be dumped as just
another band-gone-rich-but-trying-to-still-sound-hungry-and-poor.
- There's this tendency towards all music
genres getting their revival. Typically it
happens 10-15 years after the genre goes away, and then it becomes popular all over again.
This is a fairly nice phenomenon, but, unfortunately, quality hasn't always got a
sufficient say in the type of music getting revived. I mean, not so long ago a
"Class" act like Modern Talking started selling a load of albums again, and now
music that reminds me of Sabrina's "Boy" from the '80's is hitting the charts. I
mean, some things are just not worth preserving!!!
