THE HOT AND NOT LIST as of July 18th
1999
Le Mec:
Hotlist
Music in
movies. The way the right
kind of music at the right moment can just utterly enhance a scene and how it affects you
as an audience. When this combination of atmosphere and music really works, it reaches far
beyond the movie itself. Most recent experience with this was in the movie "Notting
Hill" where a great choice of music made a great movie even greater. I say fuck
action movies with nothing genuine to say!
Sixpence
None The Richer:
"Kiss Me". If you don't like this song you gotta be without any sense of
romance.
Jennifer
Lopez: "If You Had My
Love". Well, here's proof that beauty and talent don't always exclude each other. And
she's primarily and actress. I mean, what can you say...?
Garbage will be doing a song for the next James Bond
movie (probably the theme song). At this moment there's probably no better band for the
job to create a song that truly keeps the atmosphere of a Bond movie yet still reaches far
beyond the Bond universe. And, by the way, I'm going crazy over their brilliant album
"Version 2.0" all over again...
Former Norwegian heroes A-ha have
been reunited and will be releasing a new album in the near future. I always saw the
qualities of the band and especially their latest couple of albums have been really great.
So I, for one, am welcoming them back with open arms.
I found a few funny illustrations of some of my favourite bands and thought I'd share them with you. You'll find
them on my Toon page.
Information on upcoming album releases. As always the dates should be taken with a
grain of salt though the sources are genuine:
The Cure (rumoured to be just around the corner)
The Dandy
Warhols (Summer)
Garbage (August)
Bernard
Butler: "Friends
& Lovers" (September)
Supergrass (September)
Gomez
(September)
Live: "The Distance To Here" (October 5th)
Pet Shop Boys
(October)
The
Charlatans (October)
Kent (October)
Sneaker
Pimps (October)
Sting: "Brand New Day" (October)
And currently working in the studio on albums due out within the next year or so:
U2, Oasis, Radiohead, The Smashing Pumpkins.
Notlist
- Just a vague complaint that the summer months are pretty dead when it comes to
new album releases. Unpatiently awaiting the Fall in that
respect...
The lack
of decent radio stations
in Denmark. Monopolized conditions make it hard for any new and interesting ideas.
