THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of November 17th 2002
Le Mec:
Hotlist
- Robbie
Williams: "Escapology". Prince pop is back with a new album of
superior pop. This time he seems to have gone in a more mature direction which, in my
book, is a smart move. However, we still need the rebel kid Robbie on the music scene to
show his arse to everyone!
- Danish band Mew is slowly but surely heading for something big. One
thing is that they've signed a huge record deal with Sony, another is that they've teamed
up with Alan McGee who's Mr. Big Shot in the business. Among others he's the man behind
Oasis. Mew's international debut should be available around Europe early next year. You
really should check them out.
- James: "Getting Away With It - Live" DVD. If
you're a fan of James you definitely should own this. And even if you're not, you'd
probably still be intrigued by this capture of James' last concert before frontman Tim
Booth left. It's very intense and love is all around. A concert videos should be like
this. I'm normally pretty bored when it comes to live videos but this one had me on the
edge of my seat (sorry, sofa...).
- Mylene
Farmer's fine production of videos has also been released on two DVDs.
They're called "Music Videos" and "Music Videos 2 + 3" and should be
quite interesting if you're into the French lolita popstar (if you can call a 40-year old
woman a lolita...).
- Billy
Corgan's new band Zwan have signed a record deal and we can expect an
album from them early next year. Haven't heard any of their music yet but I'm hoping for
something like the last couple of Smashing Pumpkins
releases.
- The fact that an artist like Norah Jones is high in the charts is a very good thing for
music. Her jazzy piano-based pop makes for a nice change between all the disposable pop,
nu-metal and no-brainer dance. Along with colleague Vanessa Carlton she's tipping the
scale in a better direction.
- Bruce
Springsteen selling 44,000 tickets in just two hours for next summer's
show in Denmark. Nice to see that even though his record sales may be on a downward slope,
people still want to experience concerts with honest and powerful contents.
- U2. No matter how you see it they are and have been a constant
source of quality through-out their career. The brand new Greatest Hits 2 package confirms
that they are and have been the biggest band in the world of the last fifteen years. No
less.
- The
Osbournes. The fact that Ozzy doesn't give a rat's arse that he walks like
he's shit his pants - on worldwide TV.
Notlist
- Bonnie
Tyler is once again being advertised heavily on TV. Get that old bat off
the air!!!!
- Toto
return with a covers album. Well, Toto have not been the most interesting of bands lately
and them doing other people's stuff just makes it all worse. A new low on the originality
scale.
- NME album
reviews. Apparently, there's no way you can get a decent review in NME if
you're not an artist who's constantly drunk, more than often doesn't hit the right notes,
and drinks his own piss. One thing is a critical review, another is obvious envy and
predictable slashing reviews. The statement that all music journalists are just failed
musicians is getting more and more credible.
