THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of December 15th 2002
Le Mec:
Hotlist
- Cd sales
in Denmark going up this year. Considering tendency the last couple of years this is a
very positive development. Maybe there's evidence in this that there's still a future for
traditional music channels. I wonder if the tendency is the same in other countries...
- Lisa Loeb:
"Hello Lisa". She may not be the most innovative of singer-songwriters but her
music still appeals to me. There's something about that universe of hers.
- Everything
But The Girl: "Like The Deserts Miss The Rain". A fine best of
package with a clear focus on the recent more dance-oriented years. It's a great doorway
to their music and will be appreciated by most pop fans.
- Christmas
classics. Let's face it, the true Christmas songs are the old American
ones. There's just an amazing atmosphere in them and it's clear to see how they've
influenced Christmas songs all over the world.
- Music DVDs.
For music fans, the possibilities to really get close to your favourites under perfect
conditions have never been better. There are some great packages out there and when this
medium of the future really matures and all the back catalogues/old material comes out, it
will be really interesting.
Notlist
- I was in this hotel room watching TV
when my jaw dropped to the floor. Paul Young
appeared on TV Shop!! I know his career hasn't been flying lately but things can't be that
bad. Respect takes a plunge.
- Rod
Stewart: "The Great American Songbook". When Robbie Williams did
his crime against some of the classic songs, he almost got away with it without looking
too embarrasing. Rod Stewart is nowhere near as lucky and comes across as a tired worn-out
old man who's steadily losing his voice. Retirement must be the next step.
- Tom Jones:
"Mr. Jones". Tom Jones has been complaining about the lack of airplay for his
latest release and blamed poor sales on this. No, Mr. Jones, your lack of success is not
because they don't play you on the radio. It's because your music stinks!!
- Moby
- one of the nicest people in music - being attacked and beaten by three men after a gig
in Boston.
- Music
videos generally fail to capture me. I've never been one who could watch
the same videos over and over again with continued interest. And as the format is steadily
approaching twenty years of popular exposure, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to
stay tuned. Too many are just too boring. There are still some proof that music videos
should be considered an art form but the word advertising is gaining more ground every
year.
