The
Hotlist

THE HOT AND NOT LIST as of April 15th 1999
Le Mec:
Hotlist
- The song "Waterloo" from the new Suede
single "Electricity", CD 2. A B-Side in a very different setting than you
normally hear from the band. Great stuff! (for more on "Electricity", see the
Notlist).
- New Radicals: "You Get
What You Give". This is very American radio rock. But how very good it is!
- Lene Marlin (I think that's
what she's called). Norwegian pop songbird with a strong sound. I more or less just
overheard her on MTV, but her music seemed very persistent - along the lines of Natalie
Imbruglia.
- New album by Tom Petty. I
haven't heard it yet, but he's spent four years making it. In other words, it's gotta be
good. In relation to this I recommend a friend's website if you're into Petty: For The Sake Of The Song (he's
finally gotten it back on the Net - more or less at the same pace as Tom
himself...).
- The song "Unsent" from Alanis
Morissette's second album "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie".
There is something special and incredibly honest about the song that strikes me every
single time I listen to it. My favourite off the album.
- Danish she-male Maya Albana
has made a very promising debut with "Common Breed". The album should be quite
okay too.
Notlist
- Blur: "Tender".
First single off their new album "13", and bloody awful it is too! I never
really like gospel choirs, and the song also reveals the serious limitations in Damon
Albarn's voice. Fortunately, word has it that it's the only one of its kind on the album.
- The new Suede single
"Electricity" borrows a lot from "Trash". But it's not as strong and a
small disappointment (compared to normal Suede standard, that is). I hope the album
"Head Music" (out May 3rd) is as good as Suede think themselves.
- Oh no! Did you see Mariah Carey
at the Oscars!? She's put on quite some weight. i don't know about you, but to me Mariah
Carey should be the nice little thing with the high voice. Please, don't change into
another horrible big mama like Whitney is in the middle of doing. Anyways, call me a
sexist, but that's just the way my world is turning...
- The fact that I'm complaining about the way Mariah Carey looks is a clear sign that I
obviously do not have any more decent remarks to make. So, over and out...
Morten Jordan:
Hotlist
- Hole: "Celebrity
Skin". I totally agree with Le Mec on this one. It is a brilliant rock album with a
great sound and flair for good tunes.
- Blur: "13".
"Sledgehamering chunks of their fan-base" as one critic writes. Graham Coxon
must be one of the most expressive guitarists these days together with Johnny Greenwood
from Radiohead.
- AMG (All-music-guide) is a fabulous guide
to different styles of music and their relations and key-artists. If you have ever
wondered what "urban-folk" is, or how a band sounds like when they play neo-prog
rock, then AMG is the place to look.
- Sebadoh is coming to Denmark
in May.
Notlist
- Thomas Helmig has released a
new record and it is being played everywhere. It's bloody awful. For those of you who
don't know him he is the Michael Bolton of Denmark with at twist of Eros Ramazzotti and
Jon Bon Jovi. He reminds me of a one-man boy-band for grown-ups.
