THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of March 15th 2000

- Robbie
Williams at The Brit Awards 2000. Knows how to balance attitude and
arrogance without becoming an annoying brat. In contrast to some Oasis members who seem to
have overstepped this thin line.
- The showmanship of Will Smith. Last shown to the world at The Brits.
- The attitude of Scottish band Travis. How great to see that you can actually display a
joy of playing your music as well as a humble attitude and still become successful. In
general, this seems to be a gift for Scottish musicians - not like British bands who think
the only way to be noticed is by bad-mouthing others.
- Juliana
Hatfield releasing two albums in the coming months. Also, see her newly
established page on this site.
Notlist
- Macy Gray.
Everybody says she's got a fantastic voice - I do not. They also say she makes great
soul music - I do not. In fact she really bugs me and her voice really annoys me. And
seeing her appearance at The Brits this year only stressed my impression even
further...No, I don't like her.
- Well, when will they wake up and start
offering us something worthwhile?! I'm talking about the poor
quality of online music stores. Either the service is bad, the prices are
too high, the update frequence is awful, or something totally different. A few examples on
my shopping list I do not recommend are Ceedee Empire and CDOn. I wonder if the first was
ever updated after it was first launched, and the assortment at the other is ridiculously
limited! I don't see why you should bother going there...(but, letting you decide for
yourselves, I will keep the links to these places...).
- Tom Jones.
Some people see him as a legend constantly re-inventing himself. I basically see him as an
ageing entertainer having stayed too long.
- Ron Wood.
His behaviour at the Brits as a drunk, worn out music corpse more than anything showed
that these old rock people may have rock n' roll in their blood. But also that all this
blood sometimes takes up all the space supposed to contain their brains...
- ...And then a final remark: remember
that music is supposed to move you!!!
There's nothing more dull than the kind of music people listen to because of the
musician's technical abilities. Music should move rather than be techinically impressive.
I'd rather listen to a half bad guitarist who can really move me than the world's best
solo player with all his technique. I mean, I can't stand listening to a guy like Joe
Satriani with all his guitar masturbation crap! So - people - if it doesn't move you, get
rid of it!!
