THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of March 13th 2002

Hotlist
- Alizée:
"Gourmandises". For anyone into pure French pop, there's a new girl in town. You
may have heard the single "Moi...Lolita" - the album contains more of the same.
Quality is ensured here by the simple fact that the whole thing is written and produced by
Mylène Farmer and her partner in crime Laurent Boutonnat. So if you're into Mylène,
you'll find her in a young version here.
- David Gray:
"White Ladder". This album has been around for 2-3 years now but I've never
really taken the time to listen to it. Partly because I'm slowly tiring of the so-called
New Acoustic Movement which is becoming just a little bit too dominant in the charts.
Anyway, this album is actually filled with great simple songs with great melodies and
great lyrics. In short, this is much better than Starsailor, Kings Of Convenience and what
the others are called. A classic within the genre.
- The
Charlatans: "Wonderland". This album came out last year and I've
mentioned it before. I just wanted to say that for a former Britpop band, this is one
damned sexy record!!
- Kylie Minogue: "In Your Eyes". This song is even
better than the massive "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" and it suddenly seems
likely that we'll still be dancing to new Kylie stuff twenty years from now...
- Watch out for new albums by Pet Shop Boys,
Del Amitri, Sheryl Crow, Kent
and Simple Minds within the next month.
Notlist
- Well, this is becoming almost a
routine....but once again the Danish Music Awards
were every bit a embarrasing, boring and uninteresting as it has been in former years.
Neither the hosts nor the performers managed to push the ship to sea. Something is
definitely missing - perhaps the traditional scandals of British awards....? I don't know,
I'm just not a big fan of award shows because they're rarely very interesting.
- The new George Michael
single "Freeek" doesn't seem too impressive. Kind of like an upbeat "I Want
Your Sex" I guess it's a song that'll need more than twice on the turntable to catch
on. Looking forward to the album, though. George Michael rarely makes crap music.
Apparently, he's got ambitions of selling 15-20 million copies of the new album. That
either means it's really great or that he's finally lost contact to the real world...
- Shakira.
Not much to say other than her voice annoys the living hell out of me. She may make decent
music but with that voice I'll never get to hear it. Britney for latinos...
