THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of November 11th 2001

- Garbage live in Copenhagen on November 4th. The
band is currently doing a few exclusive live shows in smaller venues around Europe and
taking their music to smaller surroundings really does them well. It gives the show a much
more intimate atmosphere and creates a link between the band an audience you won't find
with larger crowds. This in itself set the stage for something out of the ordinary. A
short-haired and completely bleached Shirley Manson fronted a band with a mission: to kick
the crap out of everybody with a wall of sound and the guitars up front in the picture.
The result was a show with a very fast pace where the ballads seemed like breathers
allowing the audience to catch up with the band. This was definitely not a pop
concert...One of the great things about Garbage is that even though they are huge they
still keep a very human and down-to-earth profile, making it easy to love them. I mean,
they are basically one vamp and three technique nerds. All in all, the show reinforced my
affection for the band and the upcoming tour for the new album "Beautiful
Garbage" comes highly recommended from my side.
The setlist (not in correct order): Push It / Temptation Waits / Shut Your Mouth / I Think
I'm Paranoid / Silence Is Golden / When I Grow Up / Andronogy / Drive You Home / Special /
Not My Idea / Vow / Cherry Baby / Supervixen / Milk / Breaking Up The Girl / Thirteen / #1
Crush / Til The Day I Die / Stupid Girl / Only Happy When It Rains.
- 22
Pistepirkko: "Rally Of Love". Well, this is a surprise. I've
always had the notion of this Finnish band as a group of oddballs with a slightly twisted
approach to music. It turns out, however, that this new album is filled with electronic
rock of very high quality. The band still have their very own style but the music is very
melodic and extremely easy to like. It might even be chart material...
- musik.dk.
Denmark has gotten a new music website focusing on the basic things: news, album and live
reviews, upcoming albums and nothing more. This is a quite a nice diversion from the huge
websites trying to fit everything in a losing perspective.
Notlist
- Paul
McCartney. The ex-Beatle is still putting out one mindless album after
another and really hasn't done anything of decent quality since the late '80's. That's a
long time ago and maybe he should just call it quits....or start smoking dope again. This
might help the creative side of his work...
- Michael
Jackson: "Invincible". The new album is finally out and, as
expected, not very good. As always, it's completely packed with soppy ballads and crappy
beats. The man can still write a decent chorus but he shoud refrain from serving it up
with a production so overloaded it's about to burst. The former king of pop has most
definitely lost his throne (actually, it happened a long time ago...about the time he
started to turn white...).
- Sting
has yet another album out relying heavily on old material. This time it's a live album and
I must admit that I'm finding it hard to see that the old Police material was so good that
it justifies about five greatest hits compilations and 2-3 live releases. Police were good
but not that good!
