THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of July 8th 2000

- Shirley
Manson, the leadsinger from Garbage,
is keeping a very entertaining and interesting diary at garbage.com. It's great to be able to follow the work of the band day
by day.
- Stevie
Wonder's music from his ´70's period. So totally packed with classics,
the albums he made in this period should be important albums in much more music
collections than is actually the case. Start by checking out the album "Songs In The
Key Of Life" from 1976 and take it from there...
- Radiohead
have finished working on their next album scheduled for release on October 3rd. The album
will be called "Kid A". What better way to meet the darkening days...
- Melanie C:
"Northern Star". A fine album from the most serious Spice Girl. Proves that life
after Spice Girls could turn out to be quite a bit more interesting.
- Moloko.
After their two great hits "Sing It Back" and "The Time Is Now" I've
really taken an interest in this band. They have really developed their sound over the
past couple of years.
- I wish to draw your attention to the
artist John Kilzer who released two really
great rock albums back in 1988 and 1991. They're called "Memory In The Making"
and "Busman's Holiday" and should be checked out. Kilzer is best described as
much more lively than John Cougar Mellencamp and with more substance than Bryan Adams.
- Dance/trance
music. I don't know which artists belong to which genre, but some of it is
really great (Chicane and Paul Van Dyk to mention a few). So what if the lifespan of
the music might be shorter than f.ex. rock music...
Notlist
- Following the tragic incident at the Roskilde
Festival, it's sad to see how everybody is looking for someone to
blame. The press blames the festival management - the police says all security measures
were okay - the festival management blames Pet Shop Boys and Oasis for cancelling their
shows - the two bands in return blame the festival for shining a bad light on their
reasons for not playing - American experts even blame Pearl Jam - some even blame the
audience. I mean, let's learn from this thing what we can and then move on. Placing a
blame that probably isn't there won't get us anywhere...!
- It seems like the expected B-sides project from Garbage has been postponed
indefinitely. The band apparently got so inspired that they have stared focusing on the
next album, which in itself is a great thing, but it means we'll have to wait for all
those great hidden tracks...
- I know this is not a new thing, coming
from me, but I need to say it again. With TV ads and
teenagers dominating the music scene today, where is the generation to
take over the rock tradition? It worries me that 16-year old girls seem to have won the
battle against more substantial artists like The Smashing Pumpkins or Oasis for that
matter. Kinda makes you wonder...
