Madder
Rose. Great American
guitar band with now four albums behind them. Went to see them live and talked to the band
after the gig. They are definitely overlooked and I highly recommend their latest and best
album "Hello June Fool". I would describe their present sound as Cowboy Junkies
with a guitar edge. And Mary Lorson has got a superb voice! So if you're into anything
from Sheryl Crow to Hole, don't let this band go unheard. Visit their official website.
The old Beatles albums are starting to come out in remastered
editions. I think this was about time since some of them could use a quality check
sound-wise. And everybody else is doing it...
The The will have a new album out soon. I've missed the
haunting spirit of Matt Johnson and have very high expectations. It's like waiting to
finally meet a good friend again.
Rock
dinosaurs. Now, there are
a lot of them out there (think of bands like Toto, Marillion, Foreigner, Iron Maiden etc.)
and they have all more or less lost their grip on the public. And the press is constantly
giving them the axe. But in a way that's okay. As long as there's still an audience, who
cares if they're only playing to the people who also liked them ten years ago. If only
they remember to stop before they get too pathetic and embarrasing, there's still
justification for their existance.
Notlist
Suede overexposion. I adore this band, but I'm
beginning to get a little bit tired of the way everyone talks about them and celebrates
them here in Denmark. Every market has a saturation point and I think Suede are moving
towards theirs in the Danish market. I know there's a special connection between the band
and the Danish audience, but I kinda need a break from them.....but I'll recover.
When Blur's
Damon Albarn proclaims
that English music is crap, I can't help getting annoyed. It sounds more like an attempt
to make a comment that will stand out and get some attention than an honest opinion. And a
band as deeply rooted in the British music tradition as Blur can hardly scream too loud
about this without pissing in their own backyard...
The Verve. Now that they're gone, it has struck me how
little I actually listen to their music afterwards. And I've come to the conclusion that
they were a bit overrated overall. I rarely listen to an entire album before I get bored.
Someone once said that all they did with the success of "Urban Hymns" was make
one good song and then make slightly different versions of it. Well, this is obviously not
the truth, but if you listen to the album, the feeling comes creeping...Anyway, they made
some great music, though - no one can take that away from them.
Too many
Danish releases becoming flops. One good explanation could be that many of those releases are merely copies of
foreign artists that did well, and that the Danish audience choose to buy these instead of
Danish substitutes that are often of a very poor or uneven quality!
