Hotlist

  • TV-2: "Amerika". It's almost a given but each time this favourite Danish band of mine makes new kling-klang it's like meeting a deer old friend. Once again they have managed to outstage most other Danish artists...
  • I'm currently reading a great book about 100 of the best album covers and the story behind the cover art. It's actually quite interesting to read about why Pink Floyd did this and Nirvana did that when they could have chosen to do something totally different. And sometimes it even adds to the musical experience itself.
  • There's good news from the Del Amitri camp. The band is currently well on the way in recording their next album. A single is expected sometime this summer and the album itself should be out later this year.
  • Gay Dad. Another fine British act in the Britpop genre. A bit like Mansun. Their official website.
  • Badly Drawn Boy. New British act, nominated in the NME Carling Awards. Weird and wonderful at the same time. Could very well be grabbing an award...
  • News has it that Deacon Blue are touring again. Could we maybe hope for an album even...?
  • Dido. There's something very irresistable about this fine lady performer. Her album "No Angel" is filled with persisting little pop pearls. Could very well become very big indeed...and her contributing to Eminem's "Stan" certainly hasn't made things worse...
  • Starsailor. There is a lot of hype about this band and they could very well be the next big thing in the Travis/Coldplay genre.
  • ...and don't forget to meet some great international Danish artists and to check out the best selling albums of all time in the US.

Notlist

  • There seems to be a tendency towards having to fill the cd to its full capacity when releasing new material. At least many artists think this is the best thing to do. If not with music then with pathetic empty space followed by hidden bonus tracks. Anyway, I used to be a big fan of getting your money's worth quantity-wise when buying an album. However, it's getting more and more frequent that most albums with 14+ songs have some material that should have been left out. The quality just doesn't last the entire album through. And generally a maximum of 12 songs tends to make up a more whole album which can actually keep the listener's attention for the entire playing length. I mean, who wants to listen to 75 minutes straigth? I guess what I'm trying to say is that if an artist doesn't have very compelling reasons for serving up over 1 hour of music, the best decision is probably to know when to use material and when to save it for B-sides...
  • Having to put up with too much awful music for every great artist you discover. There are still many valuable discoveries to be made out there but they too often well hidden among all the crap constantly pumping on the radio.
