The Hotlist

THE HOT AND NOT LIST as of May 3rd 1999
Le Mec:
Hotlist
- Oasis: "(I Got) The
Fever". B-Side from the "Stand By Me" single. One of the best songs they've
done so far. And it wasn't even included on their B-Sides compilation.
- New album with Electronic:
"Twisted Tenderness". Synthpop with class.
- Out Of My Hair: "Drop The
Roof" (1996). This British band just fell into my lap and refused to leave my CD
player for days! To describe them would be a mixture of Lightning Seeds and your
basic britpop act. With a very fine sense of balance, though. More info about Out Of My
Hair here.
- Suede: "Head Music".
New album just released. So far, reviews have been good. More comments on the next
Hotlist.
- Suede playing The Roskilde
Festival three times this year. Three gigs with different themes and different songs.
Outstanding!
- Fine new albums out by French artists Francis
Cabrel ("Hors-Saison") and Mylène Farmer ("Innamoramento").
Time again to indulge in my weakness for great French pop music. For a little more info on
these two great artists click Cabrel or Farmer.
- Lene Marlin:
"Unforgivable Sinner". A couple of Hotlists ago I recommended
this Norwegian singer. Now I know the title of that great song.
- Confession: Over the last couple of weeks I've actually enjoy quite a few of the songs
by S---- G----. Within their
area of pop music this girlband has, after all, lots of charm.
Notlist
- Jette Torp. The worst Danish
singer at all!!!!!!!!!! I'm not even going to explain why, just please avoid her.
- Andy Roda. His attempt to pair
disco and funk is at best disgusting. And the way he destroys Bonnie Raitt's
"Something To Talk About" doesn't make it better at all!
- The Verve have split. No
matter whether you liked or loathed them you can never deny that their music held lots of
quality and a certain amount of integrity. Internal conflicts, though, were too strong too
keep a band together that was always fucked up in one way or another. So at the top of
their career it has all ended (unless, of course, they decide to try again in a year or
two. They've been split up before...).
- I'm a little disappointed by Placebo's
first, selfentitled album. Too many of the songs disappear in the dull, noisy
arrangements, and the band obviously has taken a huge step up with their brilliant second
album "Without You, I'm Nothing".
- All the different compilations of "Greatest Danish music" being released and
then heavily advertised on TV. Most people have the original albums already, but the
damned things sell anyway! Talk about the power of advertising - or the stupidity of
man...
