THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of December 2nd 2001

Hotlist
- If you're a fan of British popsters James, there's a crucial new
release on the street. It's called "Ultra" and contains most of their B-sides.
Furthermore, four of their early, important albums have been remastered with bonus tracks.
They are highly recommended!
- IIO:
"Rapture". This has got to be one of the coolest dance tracks this year with
qualities that go way beyond the dancefloor. It's amazing how they've managed to cross
Nelly Furtado and Paul Van Dyk and still get a great result that will still sound great in
ten years.
- Suede are slowly moving their canons in position
for next year's album release. The first song "Simon" has seen the light of day.
- Recently watching the movie "Almost Famous" really highlighted how music used to
be and the passion and curiosity that was involved. It's a tale about a time where bands
were still discovering new ground and experiencing the true passion of a life style with a
much more genuine coolness than we see today. Today, almost thirty years on, there's
simply too much facade and redundant nonsense in the business. It's still possible to live
the rock n' roll dream but in most cases it has become strangely hollow and mainly focused
on getting the necessary 15 minutes of fame and earn a couple of millions before the
public sees through you. That said, the '70's, of course, were also really ridiculous, but
that's a whole different story...
- Danish band Mew. Their first two releases "A Triumph For
Man" (1997) and "Half The World Is Watching Me" (2000) are true pop wonders
and hold great promises for the future. The band recently signed a big international
recording deal so their music should be available internationally within too long. Give it
a moment of your time if you get the chance! For more info on Mew, visit their website. For info on other great
international Danish artist, check out some of the best
releases.
Notlist
- The recent MTV
Europe Music Awards. It's been years since the show was any good and this
year showcased an impressive amount of rotten live performances. Kylie, REM, Dido and,
worst of all, Depeche Mode. I've never seen Depeche Mode looking so tired and almost a
parody of themselves. In fact, most bands looked like they'd rather be somewhere else and
both song and sound was below average. Why don't they just throw the party without having
to bore us with useless stage masturbation...!?
- Ex-Beatle George
Harrison passing away. Even though he didn't contribute much to the music
scene in his later years, it's still sad to lose these great personalitites of rock.
Harrison was part of a different era and a living legend in his own right so this
certainly deserves a moment of thought from anyone even remotely interested in music. It
would come in handy if you're actually old enough to remember his work...
- Lighthouse
Family's medley rendition of U2's "One". Just plain sobby,
horrible and utterly useless!
