The Hotlist What's hot right now!

THE HOT AND NOT LIST as of October 1st 1998

Le Mec:

Hotlist

  • I'm reading the book "Oasis - What's The Story?" by their former tour manager Ian Robertson. They sacked him (he punched Liam). It's actually quite interesting and revealing and I guess Oasis are more or less just as I imagined them. Big mouthed and with a lead singer who's totally out of his mind!! But that's exactly where their energy and appeal come from.
  • I had to listen to it for a long time before I found the key, but the debut album by Bernard Butler is actually quite good. And if you're into Suede, it's a must - though Brett Anderson sings better.
  • I haven't heard it yet, but I already totally agree with Morten Jordan on Sheryl Crow's new album to be outstanding. By the way, I'm considering including her second album on my Top 50 List instead of her debut. The more I listen to it, the more it appears stronger than her first. One day I'll make up my mind.
  • Faithless: "Don't Leave" - the Euphoric Mix. Awesome dance music. Actually, even though I'm mostly into rock/pop I must admit to liking great dance music too. As long as it's the best of the best - like Faithless.
  • Having slowly discovered the universe of Allan Olsen (he's a Danish singer-songwriter). He makes a man proud to be from Jutland (Vestjylland, for fanden!!!!!).

Notlist

  • Danish rock bands like Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, Diva etc. They kind of smell like the real thing, but the music they make is just so boring. You can actually hear the lack of nerve and frustration that have to be present to make rock music that doesn't disappear right away. Danish bands in general lack these things because Denmark as a country is too nice and safe...
  • The same goes for Danish rap acts. They may produce a few funny lyrics, but I have a hard time taking them seriously. Even though I know that's exactly what they want.
  • All the crappy R&B soul pop streaming out of the US. And what's worse: we even have our Danish copies now. My my, what's the world coming to...?!
  • Del Amitri probably not releasing their Best Of album with a B-sides CD in Denmark. It should be available in the UK though.
  • Finding out that the upcoming album from Lloyd Cole is just a Best Of CD. I guess I should have known since Christmas is only a few months away. So are compilations from George Michael and Dire Straits (again!!!).
  • The fact that Mike Horse still hasn't gotten his finger out of his arse to write down his Hot & Not list. Therefore, he has been excluded until he produces again!!
  • By the way, did you know that it turns out that Mike Horse is a hidden Country Music fan and has been for some time. He's totally into Shania Twain. He might as well have said Julio Iglesias, even though she is just a little bit better looking....Oh yeah, he's totally into Mike Döllefjelle too and his latest album "Tubular Balls 3". I guess you know who I'm talking about now, right?

Morten Jordan:

Hotlist

  • The new single "Daysleeper" by R.E.M. I will be humming it until the album arrives.
  • Foo Fighters CD "The color and the shape" from last year. I knew that it had to be good and now I am certain.
  • The single "Celebrity Skin" by Hole. A real Friday-afternoon-ass-kicking-song !
  • The new CD by Sheryl Crow "The Globe Sessions". She is a master within her area.
  • A lot of interesting bands featured on Alternative Nation lately: The Bear Quartet, Francoiz Breut, Sing Sing, Hefner, His Name Is Alive - cool stuff.

Notlist

  • Saxophones.
