THE HOT AND NOT
LIST as of June 1st 2000
Le Mec:
Hotlist
- Transister.
Their self-entitled album from 1998 is a very pleasant surprise. It plays somewhere
between Mono and Garbage and is another example of how great music does not always receive
the full attention it deserves. But if you're into bands like Garbage or the like, I urge
you to check it out!
- Even though I won't be going, I want to
mention yet another fantastic music line up for the Roskilde
Festival this year (end of June/beginning of July). Bands like Live, The
Cure, The The, Pet Shop Boys, Oasis, Pearl Jam etc. make a visit very worthwhile.
- Saint
Etienne have a new album out. It's called "The Sound Of Water".
- The soundtrack to the movie "Playing By Heart" is a brilliant mix of the best from
many different genres. From rock through jazz to fine film music by John Barry.
Notlist
- Smashing
Pumpkins have officially announced that they will be calling it quits come
the end of this year. They will be finishing the planned tour and then more or less just
going separates ways. They are said to have enough material for another album, though, so
you never know. I any case this will be a great loss for the alternative rock scene.
- Whitney
Houston has a greatest hits album out. She did put out some decent music
in the beginning of her career but ever since then nothing's been worth remembering.
Especially not after she's adopted that whole soul diva thing. Urghhhh!
- It seems like Danish music magazine Zoo Magazine has gone under from the pressure of new taxes
etc. It's sad the only ambitious music magazine of its kind in Denmark should suffer such
a meaningless demise. Unless, of course, they find a way around the stranglehold of the
government...
- Is it just me or do you also have a urge
to take Helmut Lotti and just give him away
to someone who is just about to board a space shuttle and never ever come back...!!?
