- Now that everybody else seems to have
gotten the Millenium Bug, why not take the time to remember the
'90's as a pretty fantastic decade music-wise. Starting off with the
grunge era and finishing with the massive breakthrough of electronic music, it was really
a decade packed with musical highlights. Just look at the amount of brilliant albums from
the last ten years...Let's hope the next ten can be just remotely as interesting. By the
way, why not give up YOUR opinion on what was the musical highlight of the '90's by
participating in the current Web Poll?
- Kent:
"Musik Non Stop". Another great song from one of Sweden's best bands at the
moment.
- The
Devlins: "Waiting". Fine 1997 album from a band that most people
don't know. Clever pop music and good tunes.
- Toad The
Wet Sprocket have released a best of album, so if you don't know the band
yet, here's a great opportunity to start with some of their finest songs. The album is
called "Toad - A Retrospective".
- Upcoming
spring releases from artists like
- The Cure (February)
- The Smashing Pumpkins (February)
- Oasis (February)
- Duran Duran (May)
- Geneva
- Garbage
- Del Amitri
- Nik
Kershaw: "The Riddle". Finally got my hands on this brilliant
album from the mid '80's. Great songs and great pop music!
Notlist
- I'm getting pretty tired of MTV and all the R&B/soul monsters, pop clones and
angry young spoiled post grunge teenies running around having absolutely nothing to be
angry about. Am I really getting that old or is a decent music channel too much to ask
for? Probably the first...
- Sting:
"Brand New Day". No question about his musical skills and importance on the
music scene, but the last couple of albums his music has been getting just a little bit
boring. Especially considering the obvious talent the man possesses. I'm still waiting for
the true follow-up to the fantastic "Ten Summoner's Tales"...
- The Live concert in Copenhagen was sold out before I even
knew what was going on. What a bumper!!
- Over Christmas I kind of got the time to
see some old music videos and magazines back from the '80's,
and even though I do think the decade gave us more to be proud of than is most often
recognized, it also spawned loads of bad taste. And damn, all that make up...!
- Speaking about Christmas, isn't it a shame when today's hot artists feel
the need to take good old and perfectly fine Christmas classics and try to cover them.
Most often it goes horribly wrong - a good example being Whigfield's attempt on Wham!'s
"Last Christmas".
