Dire Straits
have completely their own sound. The Knopfler sound. Any guitar lover who also likes well
crafted soundscapes probably adores the band, and even though Dire Straits totally evolves
around Mark Knopfler, it's also a tight group that needs the other members to perfect the
sound. Dire Straits demands patience from the listener, but the amount of details and love
for the finer things reward that patience many times. Unpatiently awaiting another album
from a band that's never split up...I think. Le Mec

anything, the band is a direct outgrowth of the roots-revivalism of pub rock, but where
pub rock celebrated good times, Dire Straits are melancholy. Led by guitarist/vocalist
Mark Knopfler, the group build their sound upon the laid-back blues-rock of J.J. Cale, but
they also have jazz and country inflections, occasionally dipping into the epic song
structures of progressive rock."
