Best Music Albums - Year By
Year: 2007

1. Roisin Murphy: Overpowered
 |
The
former lead singer of Moloko returns with her second album, which is a pop-dance-disco
extravaganza. This is her "Confessions On The Dancefloor". Brilliant and
atmostpheric pop music. |
2. Kent: Tillbaka Till Samtiden
 |
The
guitars have been pushed a bit into the back and the electronic elements have a more
dominant role on this album. However, it's still very much known territory and high
quality melancholy.
About Kent |
3. Blue Foundation: Life Of A Ghost
 |
Dark Danish
indie pop, mixing traditional pop music with flavours from both Asia and Scandinavia. A
light female voice surrounded by layers of electronica and guitars and proof that there
can be a lot of positive hope in melancholy. |
4. Interpol: Our Love To Admire
 |
Dark,
melodic and insisting rock from New York. This is a real grower and an album for everyone
who loves music with large dozes of melancholy and atmosphere. This band should have a
much bigger following... |
5. Above & Beyond: Tri-State
 |
An ultimate
collection of trance pop, covering all aspects of the genre: pop anthems, instrumentals,
atmospheric ballads. An album to both dance and listen to and proof to me that there is
still a place for trance in 2007. If you like Chicane, you must get this! |
6. Athlete: Beyound The
Neighbourhood
 |
Third
album from Athlete - and the best one. The album sits somewhere inbetween the lo-fi
trickery of their debut and the anthemic approach of their second album. Mixing glorious
pop songs with unusual tweaks here and there really works well on this. |
7. Zazie: Totem
 |
Zazie
continues to lead the French pop scene with another album of high quality and immense
atmosphere. This is very French and yet also very universal. She manages to bring powerful
substance to fairly simple pop.

8. Hard-Fi: Once Upon A Time In
The West
 |
Second album
from UK indie popsters. This is sophisticated songcraft with a keen ear for the good
melodic pop song. An indie band with a priority for great sound and detail. |
9. Arctic Monkeys: Favourite Worst Nightmare
 |
Arctic
Monkeys improve on their formula with a bit more focus on the detail and generally better
crafted songs. A very consistent album of high quality power indie pop. |
10. Band Of Horses: Cease To Begin
 |
American
indie rock with one of the year's highlights "Is There A Ghost" leading the
album. A bit of pop, folk, singer-songwriter and rock, and out comes and album, which
gently gathers all these elements into an atmospheric, powerful and highly listenable
affair. |
